As an Associate you are a member of the investment team from day one. For motivated, analytically
strong candidates the role of Associate offers a challenging variation of work on all themes regarding
investing in combination with unmatched responsibility and boardroom exposure. Associates follow
a steep learning curve on a broad spectrum of competences such as strategic, financial, legal,
governance, and portfolio management. Working in investing means that analyses of investment
cases, strategic analyses and execution of strategy are all fundamental parts of the job. The great
variety in responsibilities in areas of investment opportunities, portfolio companies, the dynamic
international context, in combination with HAL’s culture result in strong personal growth and

HAL is an active, long-term investment company listed on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange. HAL has a diverse portfolio of internationally active companies. HAL Team
HAL Investments is a relatively small organization working from our office in Rotterdam. The investment team consists of about 25 professionals, including about 16 Associates between 23 and 29 years old. Academic backgrounds vary but members of the investment team have completed a strong quantitative, analytical education such as Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, etc and/or more economically oriented education such as Econometrics, Financial Economics or Finance. Every member of the investment team started their career at HAL, therefore creating an unique close-knit environment, with team dynamics best described as informal, no-nonsense, and intrinsically motivated to learn and understand challenging problems.
